David is a Cisco Fellow and an expert in cryptography and network security who is engaged with both practice and theory. He was instrumental in the development of many algorithms and protocols, including the Galois/Counter Mode of operation, the leading high speed authenticated encryption algorithm (which has been adopted by NIST as SP800-38D, and by NSA for use in Suite B), and Secure RTP, the industry standard for encrypted voice. He has authored several research results and patents. He is currently chair of the IRTF Crypto Forum Research Group, and is active in standards. David holds a Ph.D. in Physics and lives in the Washington, D.C. area.
