Steve Simlo is a Consulting Engineer working for Cisco Systems European Consulting Team. His main area of expertise is in IP multicast technologies. He has been involved in the design and deployment of IP multicast networks for most of the last 10 years. In that time he has been involved in the deployment of some large campus / Enterprise networks and some significant Service Provider Deployments as well.
Most recently he has been working on the deployment of multicast VPNs with some large service providers and has been investigating IP multicast security. He is engaged with Broadcasters looking to integrate multicast technologies into their contribution and distribution infrastructure.
He has been involved in the testing of LISP and is currently exploring the use of LISP in Data Centres for VM mobility as one of the LoTTO initiatives.
He is a participant in Cisco efforts in the “Sustainable Technologies Space” working with BT and Cisco with the Ellen Macarthur Foundation.
He has worked for Cisco for 15 years. Before working for Cisco Steve was involved with the deployment of video, ATM, SNA, X.25 and high speed modem networks in the 80s and early 90s. Previous employers were IBM UK and Motorola Codex where he had Systems Engineering roles.
When he is not working on IP multicast he can often be found with a tennis racquet in his hand or on a bicycle. Steve lives in Edinburgh in Scotland and has a 5 year old son.
