An inclusive future takes everyone, including future generations, into account. Cisco has set long-term goals to address the environmental impacts from our products and business operations. Cisco Global Events has a proven history of driving change in the events industry.  We strive to create sustainable events through replicable processes that we can improve upon year after year. Cisco Live partners with MeetGreen, an independent, third-party organization that provides an annual audit of sustainability efforts at Cisco Live. Cisco Live 2022 Las Vegas is proud to have achieved the highest-tier rating of Visionary for proven dedication to sustainable event practices.

Cisco Live demonstrates our dedication to sustainability year after year. This effort can be exemplified through success from Cisco Live 2022. Read below to see how Cisco Live is making a difference.

Elimination of single use plastics

  • Water refill stations at Cisco Live saved an estimated 5,013 single use 120z water bottles
  • Leafware, bamboo utensils, and paper cups were recovered from event waste and transformed into high-quality compost and topsoil 

Dedication to providing only ethically sourced sustainable materials for event design and attendee gifting

  • Event t-shirts up-cycled 6 plastic bottlers per shirt into their fabric construction. That is equivalent to 54,000 plastic bottles kept out of landfills and oceans

Donation of food, materials, and amenities from events (over 46,000 pounds of donated materials)

  • 4,800 Cisco Live boxed meals were donated to those in need in Clark County
  • 9,250 pounds of furniture were donated to Las Vegas nonprofit organizations
  • 450 pounds of SEG and banner graphics were donated to animal shelters for use as shade structures and bedding

Commitment to achieving Zero Waste at Global Events by 2025

  • 95% of all furniture and event furnishings, as well as 99.6% of event carpet (450,000 square feet) were recovered and returned to Cisco Live inventory for future use

Each year Cisco Live strives to make a positive impact on our destination communities. Cisco Live 2022 was no different, with attendees contributing to the creation and donation of over 1,500 bee houses, nesting boxes, compost bins, garden beds, garden kits, and solar stations.

Travel Sustainably to Cisco Live 2023

Small choices can make a difference when it comes to traveling more sustainably to Cisco Live. The list below offers some ideas that can help reduce your environmental footprint as an attendee. While not required, these best practices are a great place to start and to build from wherever possible.

Find flights with lower carbon emissions.

If possible, replace short flights with rail trips, which can reduce your emissions up to 90%.

Search for hotels near the venue with sustainability programs in place.

Stay at accommodations that are within walking distance of the venue to reduce carbon emissions from vehicle travel.

Opt for direct routes, which can save emissions associated with additional take-offs and landings.

Voluntarily lower your flight class, which can reduce emissions when compared to higher-footprint business class trips.

Use public transit or share rides for local trips.

Every year at Cisco Live, a team of Cisco Networking Academy students and instructors from across the United States and Canada are chosen to work alongside Cisco Network Operations Center (NOC) engineers to help set up and support the massive network that supports Cisco Live. The Dream Team is a diverse representation of the future workforce, including college students, military veterans, and career changers looking to expand their IT knowledge and demonstrate their skills in a fast-paced, real-world environment.
